The sclera - or 'white' of this eye - is cut out so that the round, dome-shaped iris and pupil almost seem to be floating. There's also a darkened ring around the perimeter of the iris that adds to the effect.

The almond-shaped eye is curved to follow the circle of the band, and the top and bottom of the eye's outline merge together on each side, becoming the band.
